MY TYPE OF ARTIST: I want to be Just that type of artist That stops all my fellow mover-shakers Dead in their tracks Cancel all their endless plans Just to come out and settle down Deep within my groove of perfect purity Well, I may not be all that But that’s who I’d like to be Singing the songs that save the kittens from the tree Make a difference to those who make a difference Soothe the souls of those who ache from all the giving Penetrate the lives of those who never seem to have the time If this could only be my living Well, I’m not in a hurry But one day before I go If there’s just one thing for which I’d like to be known It would be to be or not to be A speaker of our truths A giver of some moments that return us to our youths Well, until that day I’ll keep on trying Holding the hands of my fellow man Come rest some night when you’ve put all else away With backs on beds of strings and heads prepared to sway Chorus Bridge: And I don’t mean to put me down I value what I bring today But we must keep our dreams alive In just about any way Chorus

Telephone Booth Has your color faded from the weariness? Of forever climbing to gaze on the earth Your constant movement’s left you companionless Yet you’re swarmed by the men of the hour These carrion creatures conspire emptiness They have no regard for your soul As it hangs from some small star tremulous Only wanting to conceive of the whole You’re alone now, but firmly you hold the prize Awarded with things you’ve come to despise You gave up happiness in your search for some truth You’re on Mars boy, looking for a telephone booth An antagonized artist trudging slowly to a death Are you another loner in love with its affect? Are your cheeks pale in revelations? Of your captors devoid of all respect Didn’t you lead the search party as you ran away from home? With only your mind alert and erect You thoroughly cast the first stone Leaving your soul shipwrecked You’re alone now, only to find you missed the point Needing the escape, but running from joint to joint You wanted to know heaven, but used all the wrong moves Now you’re Mars boy, looking for a telephone booth Stop, look, listen; hold your hands out open Give til your brow glistens look for no return Find that inner peace allowing your legs to fall to sleep Your restlessness has caused such a mess A squirming nest of unhappiness Sit down quietly like an old man Observe your thinking and end this abuse

BATHED IN FIRE The place I call home Is under siege Everywhere I go The skies have been darkened The birds are silent And mostly gone It has gotten hard To simply breathe Bathed in fire, Bathed in fire Our land, our homes, and our towns Bathed in fire, Bathed in fire It’s hard to believe How bad it’s become An entire land Burned and numb It’s a seasonal terror Unleashed in these times Was it our own doing? And who will pay for the crime? CHORUS Bridge – Can a phoenix rise from these flames? Linings of silver to be claimed Healing for people who have been so pained How do we even try to explain …these fires CHORUS

Arizona 04:36
ARIZONA By the time I get to Arizona All the ghosts will have arrived Even though I tried to leave them I can’t as long as I’m alive They’ll all great me warmly For it’d been so long apart So red earth, blue skies, and white shadows Just an American tale played out by so many Who never tried but still failed to break free from those fine webs Too fine to see when you are so small And I guess I didn’t have to meet them But I didn’t have the heart I know I’m supposed to care About others within their wisps But I didn’t choose them either I was only but a kid Caught in the chaos wondering what I did I was only but a kid CHORUS Woven into circles Too vast to break them all One or two Every time seem to make it through Spiders weave the cycles Ghosts hover over you Phoenix, Arizona And then on to Wickenburg Where my brother chose to call me So the ghosts could all converge Bridge: Some times I want to damn him Some times I bless his heart I can’t blame him for his confusion I guess it’s right Let’s go to the start

The Beauty 04:08
THE BEAUTY The beauty of the world So often is obscured By the centuries of thought In which we become caught The beauty of the world Lost to us somehow Lives on in limitless now We know but forget how To gather it in To our bosoms today To weave it in To the things we say In the moment of death Some birth is revealed It’s the ending of all We think and we feel But an essence remains An ever watchful eye It’s the beauty of the world In the sea and the sky Living in everything It’s me as I sing I believe in the beauty within To forget that’s original sin To forget that beauty Man’s original sin And there is no condemnation necessary The path itself is a truth and a beauty Equal to and exactly the beauty described By the sages of ages come and gone by Acceptance is all that the beauty requires To open its essence and deliver its prize Of a peace that lies beyond right and wrong Would it be that some truth is revealed in the song

ALONE TONIGHT: Tonight, I'm so alone Without you I'm dry to the bone Isn't it sad to be missing you This separation shouldn't make me blue I never thought I'd want to live in your glass house But if I did Then what was that punch about I want in, but then I want out Let me in, I need in to your house Within the glass I can swim about The glass so clear but can't see through It's so sad that I could miss you Because, really, in the end What have you ever done for me I was a kitten you put in the tree Crying out, wanting to go home Splintered Tree tonight, I'm so alone It used to be a woman Before you took her place I took your hand to stop the race Will I always need that something To fill the hole then overflow It's so sad to have this song to sing needing you is not a pretty thing

PRAY FOR PEACE We might not all agree On what’s the right thing to do Who would cast the first stone? To get a message through Who wants to take a risk? Of being wrong or being alone We might not all agree But still this is our home At the very least We can pray for peace There are so many angles Words they can get tangled And love become strangled By fear of change or strife Here’s a simple contribution When needing resolution At the very least We can pray for peace Some men may carry hate But would we really wish to teach Children now and on the way Violence as a path to peace If we believe in peace we must Disavow the iron fist Strength is strong but sometimes bends It’s a subtle twist Chorus Bridge: If we are to share this home Make a pledge strong as stone To respect each one with a different view How else can we get through?

Puppet 05:25
Puppet: I’m a puppet on a string And a master of disguise I’m the master above Fingers dancing in the sky But I don’t see me All that’s left are the fragments Of me scattered all around Looking for some solid ground But this stage is all I find I hope I play my parts well With one foot up in Heaven The other down in Hell I’m a puppet on a string And the puppet’s master too I can see the strings clearly And some change is overdue
9.
Oregon Creek 04:46
OREGON CREEK: My heart broke on Oregon creek Couldn’t stand to leave it all incomplete Everything I felt came pouring from my soul And my heart was feeling low Tears they ran like rivers on ancient granite rock Nothing could prepare my heart for the shock Of knowing that loving you meant letting go And my heart was feeling low CHORUS: Oregon Creek, cold waters Oregon Creek, warm stone Oregon Creek, did you hold my hand? As I tried to understand My face it was cracking like lightning in the night The heaving and the weeping knowing that this might Be the end of my time Basking in your light It’s hard to accept that this is right But I couldn’t celebrate you I was selfish in my ways Taking us for granted Even in the early days A minor miracle You didn’t just turn away The truth was my defense Explanation for it all But once hearts are intertwined What’s the use of all these walls? CHORUS

Stay Young Forever Yesterday as I left home I little birdie told me Something straight out of the blue Like the sky in which she flew Was it words or strictly sensation? Something tingles with an elation Finding my inner spirit A well that won’t run dry The truth became revealed In the morning’s light I’m gonna stay young forever Feel it each day more than ever Even though each day I’m getting older I’m gonna stay young forever I went straight to your door As no one’s meaning more to me I spread a little gossip A smile rose and shaped your lips Was it words or strictly sensation? Or just imagination But you already knew my oasis Where you quenched your hungry heart Now too my thirst can be ending In this morning’s heart CHORUS Bridge: Will you stay young with me or will we not relate? Come swim beneath my trees, rivers bend but they do not break

about

This album is the return of a veteran musician from the San Francisco Bay Area who has performed under many guises and in many projects locally and afar. Every song is a personal testament and expression of what Godfrey Daniel has lived, seen, thought, and felt. With Wounded Moon, the emphasis is squarely on the singer and the lyrics which guided how each song was recorded and produced.

Intimate, personal, introspective, philosophical, vulnerable, and authentic, these are the characteristics most evident in this bold body of work.
