Simple Man 02:47
You shouldn’t try so hard I’m such an open book Sure some times been hard But take a second look We’re heading up and out Don’t ever bother looking back Dearest lover of my heart Don’t you see we’re on the right track? Reading between the lines sometimes You find just another nest of confusion Chapter 2, verse 10, try it again And keep in mind I’m a simple man Don’t strain your eyes I’m really such a simple case Another man with a need for love Another man without a place You’re doing all the right things I do the best I can Feels like the life and times Of a simple man CHORUS If you’re looking for secrets You’re sure to find them But at some point they’re more yours then mine and You left me with no room to stand Just complicating a simple man x 3
2.
Victim 04:20
I used to think I was a victim I used to die by my own hand I used to skim along the surface I’m sure you could understand x 2 I once lived a simple sadness It was so hard to resist Crosses bruised my shoulders Whips licked my flesh x 2 Knowing all about damnation Mine to create and then condemn Double down in that dynamic Another case of us and them I used to have a little cage Every night I’d turn the key I used to feel this isolation Was a path to me x 2 I once thought I was an artist I used to sing the blues Everything held hidden meanings But I was missing all the clues x 2 Knowing all about redemption Bless my soul sing hallelujah Fires stir from the coldest ashes Burning through all shades of blue CODA:
I once knew a man He looked a lot like you He burned all his bridges Boy was he sorry when he couldn’t get through x 2

Cold December night in 2016 Ended in a way no one could’ve seen 36 souls set out that night Ignorant of their horrible plight All sails set for a wicked fate Into the darkness of cruel death’s gate Just another night, just another place The last time I saw your face Calls poured in from around the world Are you all right, did you lose someone? Hearts sank to hear the news Feeling so bad with these Ghostship Blues Plenty of blame to go around But in the end, bodies in the ground Tell the story so hard to hear Crushed by sorrow, drown in tears CHORUS-- BRIDGE: Remember them well in your heart I say, remember them well Honor their part
4.
The Light 03:46
There’s someone coming Are you ready? Your life will never be the same This person loves you Without condition But u don’t ever know their name Perhaps they’ll be small in your hand But that alone will be larger than life There’s someone coming are you ready And willing to show your light riff Some people will say that this one comes from above But I don’t really know about all that The only thing that they’ve got to give is Love That’s where the divine is at There’s someone coming are you ready? Ready for some sleepless nights They’re gonna need you to be ready Ready to be their shining light Everybody knows the ways it goes A bed a roses just really ain’t life Just hold her close Love her deeply Be ready to show them your light
5.
HOME TO ROOST: I don’t know why you wanted to know Every trick in my book You just couldn’t look Beyond the flaws Was that the cause Of your going away You just couldn’t stay It seems to me that you wanted to be Free on your own A woman alone In a world filled with hearts That so often seem so far apart It’s low to end it all before it starts It all comes home to roost some day I’ve been known to deceive It’s really quite a relieve That you know me now Couldn’t hide anyhow What’s one more lie or two When we’re already through I don’t care for you And I’m not feeling blue In a world filled with hearts That so often seem so far apart It’s low to end it all before it starts Bridge: I want to tell you something true x 2 I’m young and I’m old I’m warm and then cold I’m meek and then bold I’m good and then evil And that’s the nature of people It all comes home to roost some day x 3
6.
Kid Icarus 05:06
KID ICARUS: A Cultivated reputation is bearing poison fruits Try to redefine but then find that it’s not use Everyone was watching as he gave himself the boot The irony had gone to far and overwhelmed the truth Goodbye baby, innocent angel Kid Icarus Yearns for the sun’s kiss So much not to be missed But now crossed off the list Wings made to fly but built on tender sticks Illusions made to die based on simple kicks Climbing for the take off but then the eager fall The story never dies about the one who wants it all Goodbye baby, innocent angel CHORUS Bridge: Kid Icarus, don’t betray us CHORUS
7.
IRONIC SORROW: How ironic to find yourself Spending all your energy Trying to capture sorrow’s essence When it should be clear That you’re carrying it Just inside your soul It’s not far at all Is that what we call creativity A hunt for demons screaming on our backs Run around in circles, step back to get ahead How many mirages lay ahead Tired of being fooled You choose to die of thirst instead Why do you try, why do you try To personify All your Darkness In words and notes to pass along What’s the essence of your song? So when you know that all lies within Perfect opportunity to crack a grin But still out of control you begin Searching desperately all over again Perhaps an unnamed, silent 8th sin You can read the bible find no mention You couldn’t know the horror of self-deception Deceived into thinking all beauty lay in sorrow And your fate was sealed Never thinking to stand still Chasing yourself in circles and calling it a mission
8.
PROCEED WITH CAUTION: Everybody knows emperor’s got no clothes Just like the holy fool I’m standing naked too Turn away from this, the shameful tenderness Turn the face real slow so that there’s time to go Proceed with caution tossing turning all night A dream slow motion chosen almost not quite Subsonic messages no text what’s next A riddle winding tying round your neck x 2 Got no pants or shoes, these blues they just can’t lost Exposed by blinding light, come and hold me tight Just don’t look into me, I lost integrity This is mainly the fear, screaming get out of here
9.
My Queen 06:28
MY QUEEN: In the form of a letter you came to me Then began to remember a vision of you free In the shape of a heart were the seeds we’d sown And if I took you apart nobody would have known You were once the queen I played the jester and the fool Through those years of darkness Your love for me stayed true Was it the form of a dream now you’re never seen Arriving as the reminder your words set this fear free Sweet and tender, your brightness soothed my soul In the form of a letter your love was written bold CHORUS
10.
Bad Habits 04:52
BAD HABIT: I picked it up like a bad habit I know a fire that burns too bright I don’t want it but I gotta have it Will smoke get in my eyes tonight I kissed you like it was going out of style I knew that kiss might need to last for a while It was too cold for an August night But I was the only one shivering So I sucked them all down Straight into that gaping hungry space That knows nothing of limits And has no time for grace I didn’t dare go near the water For fear I’d see some stranger’s face And fall in, and fall in, and fall in Goodbyes are getting expensive Trimming fat is cutting close to the bone Tired of trying to believe My heart’s made of rock or stone Kick my head out of the conference Let my soul get a word edgewise And stay free of those bad habits Hiding behind lying eyes Bad habits are lonely things They’re always looking to reunite When you’re not looking they’re creeping On the edge’s of Love’s light Bad habits I feel them crawling Near and yet deep within You pick it up cause you’ve got to have it Screaming just beneath your skin I kissed you like it was going out of style I knew that kiss might need to last for a while It was too cold for an August night But I was the only one shivering

There’s A Light Used to be, I was doing a lot of drinking Now I find, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking On what was and what shall be x 2 I used to be... stunning in my misdirection Now I’m talking resurrection Up around the bend There’s a light that’s heaven sent I don’t know where all the time went Looking forward to the time that’s left Up around the bend There’s a light that sends A word of truth But I couldn’t see the use I used to be a super hero wannabe I guess I flew to the bottom just to see CHORUS

about

The follow up to Godfrey Daniel's 2020 debut, "Wounded Moon". This is a continuation of the styles and tones that Godfrey Daniel presented to the world with his first record. Many of the songs on this new release were started during the first recording sessions back in 2018, so in some ways it's a continuation of the same artistic statement. As usual, the listener is treated to many different moods and overall the musical journey is an introspective and compelling one. Thematically, the album covers a lot of territory as well. Ultimately, the overall theme is the various ways we all search for redemption, thus the title, "Seeking the Light".
